Welcome to the James Pittman Chapter, NSDAR

The James Pittman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was named for James Pittman with several organizing members as his great-granddaughters. James was born on March 4, 1756, in Virginia and died on December 25, 1850, in Madison County, Georgia. He married Martha Taylor and had 13 children. James entered the Revolutionary War as a Private and was later promoted to Lieutenant. He moved from Virginia to what is now Madison County (formerly Jackson County), Georgia in September of 1788. James continued to serve his state after the War. He was a delegate to the Convention of 1795, a member from Jackson County of the Convention in 1796, and was commissioned Judge of the Inferior Court for the County of Jackson on June 21, 1796, by Governor Jared Irwin. James Pittman is buried in Madison County on land he set aside for the Pittman Family Cemetery. His grave has a marble marker given by the government for his service as a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War.

As of December 28, 2023, there are nearly 150 Daughters who have proven James Pittman as an ancestor.
